Miniature Pinscher Dog Leashes

If you own a dog, you are going to need one or more dog leashes for several reasons. They are needed as a training aid, and simply for keeping your pet close during a relaxing walk in the park.

The length and width of a leash is pretty much dependent on the size and weight of the dog, as well as the size of the person handling it. If you're short and have a large dog, you'll need a short leash. If you're tall and have a small breed, you'll need a longer lead to keep the leash slack enough for comfort and yet taunt enough to have control over the dog. Obviously heavier dogs need wider and stronger leads. Depending on your needs, there are many types avaliable.

Leather Dog Leashes: Most dog owners prefer harness leather leashes although the typical leash is strong enough for most breeds. The only complaint I've had with leather leashes is that some dogs are more prone to want to chew on them. Otherwise, leather leashes are excellent.

Nylon Dog Leashes: Nylon leashes are very strong but if your dog tends to forge (jump ahead quickly), the nylon can be a little hard on the hand. Nylon is difficult to chew up so there will be less mouthing. Nylon leashes are easily washable.

Cotton Dog Leashes: Many dog handlers use these leashes because they are durable and cost effective. We recommend looking for one with a brass clip. It will cost a bit more but will last longer.

Chain Dog Leashes: These will certainly deter mouthing. But be reasonable. Avoid getting a tow truck line. Chain leads tend to be uncomfortable in your hands but some people like them for their obviouis strength.

Retractable Dog Leashes: There's no question that the variable length is a great option to have. But a retractable leash can be awkward to handle at times and they may not give the support you need if a problem situation arises. If you live in a large city, we certainly don't recommend wasking your pet along the sidewalk on retractable leads. This can be both dangerous and annoying.

However retractable leashes are great training tools. In teaching the "come" command for instance, a retractable leash allows the dog to wander a specific distance from you, and gives you opportunity to give a command and be able to reinforce it.
