It's a simple fact, if you have a dog you are going to need cleaning supplies. This is especially true while housebreaking your dog. There will be some accidents. Count on it.Here's another fact, dogs almost always return to the scene of the crime, so to speak. If they made a mess on the couch once, they'll likely do it again. If they've gone on one section of floor or carpet, count on them returning to the same area for future mistakes. That's because even if you can't, they can detect the smell of urine and feces. Therefore it is imperative that you clean these spots properly, and that means using cleaning supplies that effectively neutralize the odor.
What you don't want to do is use a product that contains amonia. Amonia is also found in dog urine, and by using a product like this you are effectively training your dog to have future mistakes in the same area.
There are of course a number of commercial products available, but the best we've found by far is Nature's Miracle Stain & Odor Remover. This stuff is fabulous. It uses enzymes to neutralize the acids in urine, vomit, and feces. And it can be used on practically anything from carpets to floors to furniture, clothing, cages and pet sleeping areas.
Chances are you'll want something for your laundry as well. Nature's Miracle Laundry Detergent Pet Allergen and Stain & Odor Remover is another great product. Of course you won't want to use this for all you laundry, but it's great for dog beds, blankets, towels and even your clothing and bedding if your pet has messed on them.
If you're adverse to hand cleaning, chances are you have a Little Green Machine or some other spot lifter or deep cleaning machine. Again, you don't want to use the standard cleaning solution for pet stains. You'll need one especially made for cleaning pet odors and stains. You should definately look into Bissell Pet Odor & Stain Removal Formula for All Portable Deep Cleaning Machines. Although we prefer the hand cleaning products more, this stuff works if you have to use a machine.
Just remember that cleaning is a very important part of the housebreaking process. Without the proper cleaning supplies to clean mistake areas, the process will take much longer than it needs to. You'll simply be making more work for yourself and creating more stress for your puppy.
